BEEF BULGOGI
Beef Bulgogi is a beloved Korean dish known for its savory and slightly sweet flavors. It traditionally features thinly sliced beef, often ribeye or sirloin, marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger, among other ingredients. This marinade not only tenderizes the meat but also infuses it with a rich umami flavor. Once marinated, the beef is usually grilled or stir-fried, resulting in a deliciously caramelized and juicy dish. Often garnished with sesame seeds and green onions, Beef Bulgogi is typically served with rice and a variety of side dishes known as banchan, such as kimchi. This dish's versatility and depth of flavor make it a favorite in Korean cuisine, enjoyed both at home and in restaurants around the world.
Beef Bulgogi Recipe
Ingredients:
1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
1/4 cup green onions, chopped
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes) – optional
Lettuce leaves (for serving)
Steamed rice (for serving)
Instructions:
Prepare the Marinade: In a large mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, vegetable oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, chopped green onions, black pepper, and gochugaru (if using). Mix well until the sugar dissolves.
Marinate the Beef: Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring each piece is coated evenly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for more flavor.
Cook the Beef: Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer, discarding excess marinade. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, flipping halfway, until the beef is cooked through and nicely caramelized.
Serve: Remove from heat and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Serve the beef bulgogi on a plate with lettuce leaves and steamed rice. You can wrap the beef in lettuce leaves for a fresh and tasty bite.
